Over & Above

Situated on Weld Quay which was once home to the Port of Penang, Over & Above is our latest commercial work in which a modern-day cafe-bar hybrid operates under one roof. Our keen appreciation towards the inherent beauty of the heritage structure led us to a careful readaptation of the site’s original materials, paving way for our overall design process in the makeover. Breathing new life into the space while keeping the original structure intact, installations of pelmet were used to reduce the ceiling height — creating new zones that cater to the owner’s need of serving different crowds throughout different time of the day. Playing to the site’s advantage, our bespoke furniture with smooth surfaces sharply contrast the rough but storied walls across the space. To further enhance the visual impact of the rejuvenated space, we worked closely with Foci Collective to add an extra jolt of energy in the form of motion graphics and art installations that shine through the brand’s vibrant orange hue.
